How Fusion is run

For the past two years Fusion has been run by a student-led Lead Team.  In October 2009, the leadership passed to a new oversight team, (henceforth "the Fusion team"), led by Annie Holmes, and overseen by Tim Anderson and Daniel John, who are both on the leadership team at City Life Church.  Even with the changes though, the overall running, and accountability of Fusion remains very similar; a student-led movement for students, accountable to and supported by the local churches and Fusion nationally. Here's how it all works:

Cell leaders

Cell leaders are the people who make it happen week to week in colleges.

Before becoming a cell leader, people attend New Leader Training, which is run by the Fusion Team. Ideally they are also a regular member of a church in Cambridge.

Cell leaders come along to ‘The Hub’ two to three times a term to receive training and inspiration either from Fusion Team or occasionally someone else. This also provides an opportunity to share stories and advice with each other, and to pray together.

The Fusion Oversight Team

The Fusion Oversight Team is in charge of coordinating and running all areas of Fusion in Cambridge; some of their specific responsibilities are listed below:

  • Keep Fusion Cambridge true to vision and values
  • Relate to other Christian groups
  • Encourage other churches to connect with Fusion
  • Continue links with Fusion uk
  • Run the Hub, building up and training the cell leaders
  • Be point of contact/additional support for cell leaders
  • Run New Leader Training
  • Put new people in cells
  • Work on cell resources

In the past, Fusion had a team of associates: people who have been leading cell for a while and are a bit more experienced. Their job was to take responsibility for looking after a small number of cell groups; supporting and informally training the cell leaders; and helping choose interns.  While we have changed the leadership structure of Fusion, we still understand that this kind of hands-on support is really helpful for the cell leaders. Therefore, from October 2009, the jobs the associates used to do have been taken on by members of the Fusion team.   More here.

The Oversight Team will also be supported by and accountable to Fusion uk, for example through their Student Worker Equipping Days and Conferences.  For more information on Fusion uk, go to www.fusion.uk.com

This basis in local church makes Fusion distinct from other student organisations which have a turn-over in leadership every year. The link to local churches gives us a stable basis within the city, which allows more direct communication between the university and the churches. It also makes it very easy for students to get involved in projects run by other churches.
